Palm Beach Atlantic Associate Professor Gary Poe waits for the crowds to clear before ascending the stairs at the Grotto where John the Disciple lived on Patmos Island. It is believed to be the location where John received the apocalyptic revelations.
It is now preserved by the Greek Orthodox Church. Thousands visit every year. Patmos is governed by the Greeks even though it is only about 30 miles from the coast of Turkey.
Students, faculty and alumni from Palm Beach Atlantic University are in Turkey for a tour of historical sites May 14 – May 25, 2009. They are on Honors Study Travel program.
